In The Rocky’s article “Prairie dogs nearer to endangered status” what matters is the black-tailed prairie dog population has dropped to a level near the endangered status. The prairie dogs have been moved from 90 million acres, down to 2 million acres. Fish and game warden have been notified that they should help protect these creatures. The black-tailed prairie dogs can blame urbanization, oil and gas development, plague, recreational shooting, and livestock grazing for their dramatic drop in population. Black-tailed prairie dogs are found in Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, North Dakota, Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Nebraska, and Kansas. In The Rocky’s article “Prairie dogs nearer to endangered status” what matters is a black-tailed prairie dog population has fallen down to just above the endangered list.
